so i got my boobs smashed a few weeks ago. i got my first mammogram.
did you know that the recommended age to begin getting mammograms is now 35 and not 40?
did you know that in august 2019, cuomo signed a bill mandating large insurance carriers in new york state to cover screening mammograms for women aged 35+ (vs. just 40+)?
did you know that many states are working on expanding the ages covered for preventative breast cancer screenings?
did you know that it is recommended that you do a self-exam of your breasts once a month (2 weeks after your period is best), get a breast exam during your annual physical, and get a screening mammogram every year as well?
did you know that it’s possible to have breast cancer even if no lumps are felt?
did you know that sometimes even a mammogram doesn’t pick up breast cancer and if you have a weird feeling, it’s okay to ask for a screening breast ultrasound or a breast MRI?
did you know that men can get breast cancer?
anyone been noticing that a lot more people are just getting cancer now— period? and at younger and younger ages?
the environment we reside in has changed over time; we are subject to more stress, more toxins, and more disruptions to our biorhythms— internally and externally. that means we have to pay closer attention to our health. no one is exempt. i didn’t know any of the things above until a few months ago when i had the opportunity to host a breast cancer awareness panel thanks to my dear friend vasha and new pal jaeki. certain other things i looked up on my own.
i had a weird ass feeling, so even though my mammogram came back clear, i insisted on a breast ultrasound just to be certain i was good— thankfully, that came back clear, too.
bonus boob tip: a qigong practice called the taoist breast massage. you can google it or look up a simple tutorial on youtube. the benefits include reduced risk of breast cancer (by flushing toxins and loosening up energetic stagnancy), balancing your hormones, reduced menstrual duration and symptoms, anti-aging, lifting and firming of breasts, and decreased stress + depression. aaaoow!
take control of your health. go get checked, loves. <3
